Bay Window treatments can be very scarey initially. The thought of three windows or one? It is just too difficult to decide how to treat it.
Firstly, just think about a bay window as three separate windows that you just happen to treat the same way. This is particularly true if you have a nice big gap between windows that effectively makes them three separate windows.
Even with a small gap you can have three separate blinds rather than having a curtain all the way round.
The first choice you have is really do you go for curtains or blinds. Curtains can present more of a problem, in particular getting the curtain rails to run around the corners. Blinds offer a lot of different ways to dress the bay window.
You can also look at having two layers to your treatment with a sheer drape closest to the window and curtains or vertical drapery panels as the next layer.
For Blinds you can look at roman blinds, balloon blinds or just plain and simple blinds. As well as full length blinds you could look at café blinds which start half way down the window.
Whatever you choose make sure you do not spoil the view you have from your bay window or block out too much light.
For curtains make sure the track is flexibile. Using fixed rod type curtain tracks is not a good idea unless you have three separate curtains. If you have two curtains that join in the centre make sure that the track can curve gently otherwise you end up with sharp corner that the curtain will snag on.
As well as your window treatments you need to consider what you will have in the bay. Is it furniture such as a seat or table? how will this affect your ability to draw curtains or open blinds.
Another thing to consider is if you need to be able to open the window to gain any ventilation. Will the treatment get it the way?
All in all a bay window should be considered a beautiful thing and not a headache it is easy enough to make it into a wonderful feature.
